About Wanaka

Situated on the southern shores of a pristine alpine lake, Wanaka has beautiful vistas of New Zealand's Southern Alps and provides access to the spectacular Mount Aspiring National Park. Snow-capped mountains in winter, mild autumns with spectacular colours and hot summers ensure that there are many and varied activities available throughout the seasons.

Three world-class skifields (Cardrona, Treble Cone and Wairoau Snow Farm) mean Wanaka becomes the centre of New Zealand's skiing and snowboarding in winter. These fields cater for alpine and downhill skiing with exceptional facilities and snow-parks and half-pipes for the boarders. The Snow Farm has an extensive network of Nordic ski-trails and backcountry skiing is possible at all the fields or with the popular helicopter access options.

Biannually at Easter is the Warbirds over Wanaka air show - the biggest three-day warbird air show in the Southern Hemisphere, featuring many historical aircraft. The over 80,000 visitors confirm that this experience is not to be missed.

Of course, the expanses of crystal clear water beckon and this is a world renowned trout and salmon fishing area, both in the large rivers and the lakes. Many explore the lake's bays and inlets via boat, jetski or jetboat and some just choose to unwind on the beaches.

Those who prefer to relax enjoy the varied art and cafe scene, or take a tour of Central Otgao's Vineyards. This New Zealand's fastest growing wine region and internationally famous for its superb Pinot Noir.

We look forward to seeing you here...
